Normal sputum: These are normal sputum Gram stain and culture results. How important or reassuring that is depends on much more information from medical history, physical exam, other lab tests, and probably chest Xray or other imaging. Discuss with your doctor. Good luck.

Accepted Answer

: This isn't abnormal. Staph saprophyticus is normal on skin and in body openings, and with and only 3-5 white blood cells (pus cells) probably there is no active infection. However, interpretation and possible need for treatment may depend on the reason for the test:  if you have otherwise unexplained symptoms (e.g. vaginal discharge), you might need antibiotic treatment. Discuss with your doctor.

No cancer: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, it does not indicate infection or cancer, provided it was an adequate sample.

Sputum gram stain: Sputum gram stain testing is not done nearly as often as it once was, since we now know it usually isn't very helpful in diagnosis. The white blood cells (pus cells) suggest infection like bronchitis or pneumonia -- but it's usually possible to judge this just by appearance of the sputum (e.g., yellow or green mucus). Gram pos cocci could be entirely normal bacteria. Discuss with your doctor.

Bacterial vaginosis: is an overgrowth of hodge podge of bacteria in the vaginal vault.  This overgrowth can lead to unpleasant odor, discharge and abdominal pain . BV can be treated easily most of the time.

Probably no cause : Unless you had a positive test for a sexually transmitted microorganism, ( by culture, PCR  or other reliable method) you probably have no cause for alarm. A Gram stain test of a Pap smear sample is not a standard screening test for sexually transmitted infections; it is rarely used for that purpose. Gonorrhea may be one exception.

Sputum?: This sounds like a grossly inadequate sputum specimen, or one which was actually primarily saliva.  The organisms seen are all part of normal oral flora, and this specimen should be repeated with an induced sputum specimen if the clinical situation warrants.

Context: gram negative rods not so common and that seems a large amt. This implies an infection requiring particular antibiotics and this is not the more common cause of sinus/bronchitis but Hemophilus
