No natural treatment: There are no effective non-medical treatments for epididymitis. Epididymitis is usually due to an infection of the epididymis, which is on the side of each testicle. Antibiotics are needed to resolve the infection, and anti-inflammatories (such as tylenol (acetaminophen) or motrin) are used to decrease the pain and inflammation. A primary care doctor or a urologist can evaluate such symptoms and start treatment.

No: Almost all epididymitis is due to a bacterial infection. Since the epididymis is inside the scrotum, the infection has to be treated by taking oral antibiotics or getting an injection of antibiotics, which will flow through the bloodstream to the epididymis. There are no natural treatments with bacteria-killing abilities that can do this.

Most cured of it: Both infectious and non- infectious causes of epididymitis exists. Infections with bacteria include  E. coli, chlamydia, mycoplasma, and others. In certain cases, ejaculation may make thing better by "clearing the plumbing"; in others, if may make thing worse (rare) but it's best to talk to your urologist. The use of a scrotal  support  will also help, since it minimizes stress from "tugging".

Yes, ...: A 2-week course of antibiotics will cure most of infection-related epididymitis if sensitive. But resolution ache and induration will take time, but in a highly variable duration and occasionally, complete disappearance of both may linger or be impossible. So, wait and see; let your body do the job and time tell the story of you.

Here are some ...: The lingering testicular pain related with a definitely tender indurated epididymis after treating presumptive epididymitis may be "cured" with total epididymectomy by a skillful surgeon, but its indication should be individually reached by thorough analysis of Hx + careful physical exams + tests as needed so to balance the equation between medical necessity &amp; professional possibility. Epididymitis: I have found that the epididymus doesn't like to be messed with and even though the acute phase with pain,redness,swelling subsides with appropriate treatment, the epididymus can remain tender for years after even though there's no more infection. If enough scarring occurred it could block sperm transmission in only that testicle.

Yes: Chronic infection can lead to a diminished sperm production as well as scarring  in the epididymis to cause obstruction.  High oral fluid intake along with hot baths and anti-inflammatory medications may give you some symptomatic relief. Continue to monitor closely with your doctor.

See below: Usually in cases of true infectious epididymitis, the pain and swelling will resolve for the most part during or after treatment with antibiotics, although residual soreness may persist for several more days or even weeks.  In rare instances, chronic pain may develop.  If your pain has persisted for more than 3 months, you need to consult an urologist.
