Two general methods: Rectocele is basically a hernia of the rectal wall into the vagina.  Many women have no symptoms from rectocele and do not need repair.  Symptomatic rectocele can be repaired with sutures but comes back frequently.  It can also be repaired with mesh.   This technique may not come back as often but can have other complications.

Weight loss in obese individuals decreases pelvic pressure.

A vaginal pessary may help to decrease symptoms.

Depends: The surgery might not be too painful depending on the amount of dissection and the location of dissection for the repair.  Certainly you will be uncomfortable and fearful with first bm after the surgery but you will do fine. Be sure you are taking stool softeners and try to limit your narcotic use because the narcotics can constipated you

When its bothersome: I wouldn't worry about a rectocele until it is bothering you.  They can exist without causing problems for a long time. Surgery isn't recommended until it is causing problems.  For example, when you can't empty your rectum without putting a finger in the vagina to reduce the rectocele.  Pain or problems with intercourse are other examples.  Best wishes!
