i have just finished a 10 day course of penicillin as i had large tonsils with white spots. now i have a large ulcer on one tonsil.should i be worried?

Yous should consult: with your doctor regarding possible EBV infection or, if it becomes a recurrent problem, even tonsillectomy.  It should improve on treatment that your doctor prescribed.

Ibuprofen: You can take up to four 200mg pills 4x daily.  When you see your doctor they can talk about prescription medication such as antibiotics and possibly oral steroids for pain/swelling.

Mycoplasma infection: With history of tonsillar swelling, loss of voice and now a worsening cough, it would be wise to visit your doctor. While this could be a viral infection, your symptoms are bothersome for a possible Mycoplasma infection. Additionally, it would not be improbable for this to be strep throat complicated by bronchitis--also something not to be taken lightly. Call your doctor for an appointment today.

Obstructive tonsils?: How long have they been this swollen? Also how old is he, and we would want to know how it affects his breathing, eating, speech, and sleep (snoring), and again for how long? If it is all very recent and accompanied with a runny nose and cough, we could attribute it to viral. But most likely we are considering tonsil and likely adenoid hypertrophy, and based on above factors directs treatment.

?????????????: Even well trained physicians have difficulty separating a nasty mono  or viral throat from strep A without a confirmatory test. Tonsil tissue can retain food bits or have a variety of scars or colors. Your description is neither diagnostic of a significant problem or particularly unusual. Have tests run to confirm/exclude strep so you will have access to meds if needed.

There are the excretory product of the tonsils that form in the crypts ("pockets").  There are more common in younger people, and often will occur more after an inflammatory process, like a cold or upper respiratory infection.
