if i have bad heartburn, and pantoprazole 50 once a day is helping, do i need to still worry that i may have cancer? dont want endoscopy,too scared, but also scared of esophagus and stomach cancer..please give some words of encouragement very scared?

Heartburn: Heartburn is a very typical problem in persons over 50. If pantoprazole is helping, then continuing with this therapy is your best choice. In the absence of other symptoms cancer is very very unlikely. Continue to eat a healthy diet including lean meats/fish, high in fiber filled vegetables and fruit and low in sugar. Take a probiotic daily and drink 2.5 liters of water daily.

Of course: For endoscopy, sedation is routinely offered and in your case clearly desirable.  Keep in mind the test lasts only 3-5 minutes.  Talk with your doctor about what sedation options you can have at the center where your test will be performed.

i was gonna have an upper endoscopy yesterday but scared to death and walk out as its invasive.  is there any non invasive alternative.  pliz help.

It depends on your s: Your symptoms will dictate what may be the best thing/test to do. Endoscopy is done if there is concern that you ahve acid reflux or problem with swallowing food.A barium study may be an alternative to upper endoscopy in some situations. Treating the reflux with antacids can also take care of that problem but you need to tell us what your major symptoms are?

It probably won't...: There is no cartilage in the esophagus, nor does the upper GI endoscope come in contact with the larynx or trachea. What symptoms are you experiencing (and where) that cause you to feel you have "cartilage inflammation, " and need testing for it?

Endoscopy: I had one done in 1979. Mine was done with only anesthetic spray to the back of the throat - a little gagging - really not bad. You will probably be given some medication to relax you. I would try not to worry. The worrying is likely to be worse than the procedure. Take care.

is a lactoferrin level of 23 considered very high or slightly high? what could it mean compared to a level much higher than that? having a colonoscopy and endoscopy next week but im very scared?

: I'm more familiar with fecal calprotectin, but fecal lactoferrin levels under 7.5 micrograms per gram of stool are felt to rule out inflammatory bowel activity. High levels are seen in inflammatory bowel disease, intestinal infections &amp; colon cancer..Levels are less high with small intestine disease.  You don't mention what your symptoms are.  Your gastroenterologist will properly advise you.

having an endoscopy tomorrow. doc told me propofol being used. will that knock me out or will i be in la la land?  am a little scared.

Very flexible: Propofol can be adjusted from very light where you just feel tipsy to all the way asleep. Talk to your doctor about how asleep you wish to be and they will work with you.

Endoscopy findings: You likely had gastric (in your stomach) bleeding., The information you gave is  incomplete and ."Gastropathy" is more like to be Gastritis. The question remains the "coffee grounds" mentioned does NOT specify the source. Coffee Grounds is the clinical term to describe evidence of blood in the gastric tract. Please get the COMPLETE report and ask  Biopsy was done? if yes, then what found
