It depends on your s: Your symptoms will dictate what may be the best thing/test to do. Endoscopy is done if there is concern that you ahve acid reflux or problem with swallowing food.A barium study may be an alternative to upper endoscopy in some situations. Treating the reflux with antacids can also take care of that problem but you need to tell us what your major symptoms are?

Yes it's invasive : yet a very safe test that takes a mere minute or 2! that said, yes there can be alternatives - pill endoscopy, Xray techniques or just trying to manage your symptoms. is this being proposed to work up your chest pain? an esophagram in combination with manometry could be a good alternative.
