Medico legal: An employer may require a urine drug test in order for you to get the job. This is quite appropriate. You can refuse- and it will then be very unlikely that you will land the job.

DOT Drug testing: Drug testing for dot involves testing for marijuana, cocaine, amphetamine, opiates, and phencyclidine(pcp).  If you are obtaining your "opiate" prescription legally from a doctor, then you need to disclose that and be ready to explain it to a medical review officer when your urine comes back positive.  There is no acceptable medical explanation for drugs like marijuana even if legal in your state.

It depends: It depends what meds you were told to stop. You need legal advise more than medical advise.

i had drug test yesterday for new job. i asked the testing person if i should disclose any prescriptions she said no. i found out after the test that sertraline can cause a false positive. i take 50 mg of sertraline daily. are false positives common?

: Any positive screen warrant confirmation by mass spectrometry. If your screening test is positive, you should ask for a confirmatory test.
Sertraline can cause a positive result for the hallucinogen LSD on a urine drug test. It may also cause a positive result for benzodiazepines.

Accepted Answer

Many actually don't: Big companies may require drug testing before employment, but current many are not doing it, yet. That being said, the trend is increasing use of drug test before employment. Usually test for: marijuana, narcotics (morphine, percocet, vicodin, Methadone etc..), hypnotics (xanax, klonopin, (clonazepam) valium), cocaine, pcp, lsd, alchol. Best advice: just don't do it. Be good. Be safe. Be employed. Good luck.

it has been one a half weeks since i used modafinil. i have a hair drug test for my employer, will anything show as positive on a hair test?

Response: Modafanil is a legal prescription drug indicated for management of sleep disorders, and to my knowledge is not normally included in any drug screening profiles. Since it has a relatively short half-life, would doubt, any substantial amounts would remain in your body.  Unable to find any information that it would accumulate in hair.

i stopped taking ultram cold turkey on 8/9. i have a drug test for a new employer on 8/15. im 5'4" 265 lbs. will it be out of my system by then and me not fail my drugtest?

Should be fine : The half life of Ultram is about 8 hours. It should be undetectable after a few days. Also, most drug screens don’t test for Ultram. It is not chemically related to either opiates or semisynthetic narcotics. Maybe your employer tests for it. I don’t recall having ever seen it done.

It depends: Special testing can differentiate methamphetamine abuse from false positives coming from Vick's products etc.

does a drug test for an employer test for steroids? would prednisone 10mg show up as steroids on a drug test? would it cause a false positive?

Accepted Answer

: Corticosteroids are not  usually tested for in drug tests. Prednisone wouldn't cause false positive results for cocaine,marijuana, narcotics,etc
