RSD: RSD is now called chronic regional pain syndrome.  It is a clinical diagnosis but sometimes we use a bone scan that can help detect changes and then affected extremity.  I recommend to my patients the use of topical pain creams such as diclofenac and others.  I would also recommend evaluation by a rheumatologist.

Orthopaedics: See a consultant in Orthopaedic Surgery transposition of the ulnar nerve is an operation they perform to alleviate problems with the ulnar nerve. Please realize, a full history and physical needs to be performed and what you think is the ulnar nerve may be another structure you are manipulating. X-rays and MRI if possible likely. Stay calm and see Ortho.

Gentle: To give the best answer I need more details.  Do you have an arthritis disease,?  have you had any injury to the neck, elbow, arm?  How long has the problem been there?  Did anything in particular trigger the pain?  Is the elbow swollen?  If this is a new problem and the elbow hurts and is swollen the elbow is the cause. Gentle stretching is OK.  The first step is to get a diagnosis of the cause.

Yes: Classically it causes numbness and shocking pain from elbow to hand bur have heard this described esp with subluxating ulnar nerve.

XR and exam : If you suspect that you fractured your elbow it would be best to see an Orthopaedic surgeon and be evaluated and get an xray. Symptoms of a fractured elbow include pain, instability, and difficulty with motion. Ulnar nerve symptoms include numbness or tingling  in the small and ring finger, weakness in the hand, burning sensation starting at the elbow and moving to the fingers.

what is the difference between an arm compression sleeve and arm/elbow pad? which would be better for ulnar nerve issues?

Elbow Pad: Compression sleeve is generally not the right way to treat an ulnar nerve compression within the elbow groove. The ulnar nerve is already compressed and no added compression is needed. In fact the elbow pad is to prevent further compression and to remind you to avoid leaning on your elbow to allow for healing of the nerve compression. The elbow pad is generally not tight  either.

i had golfers elbow six yrs ago, + possible issues with ulnar nerve too, it hurts to type. i am still not 100% ok but much better, is it life long issue?

See orthopedic: You may have experienced an extensor tendinitis, and if symptoms are continuing, you need to get this re-evaluated.  An EMG test can determine if a nerve at elbow or wrist is involved, but the tendon/joint issues need also an assessment.  A simple local injection, or a rehab program could suffice. See an orthopedic surgeon, and get some help.

Tendon vs. nerve: Golfer's elbow is due to the muscle tendon.  Pain starts at the medial epicondyle and spreads down the forearm. Wrist bending, forearm twisting, &amp; object grasping worsens the pain. Cubital tunnel syndrome is caused by a pinched ulnar nerve as it crosses the elbow on its way to the hand. http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000789.htm
