YEs it can: This is a classic side effect for this drug. Discoloration is usually green/blue in nature but not necessarily a sign of serious problems. Talk it over with your physician.

RBBB: Both these medications list cardiac conduction abnormalities, and RBBB is one, as contraindications to their use. I have seen patients with chronic,longstanding RBBB tolerate low dose Elavil in past years. Other  antidepressants may be considered in such patients. Your pharmacist or a cardiologist would be better qualified to answer this question,however.

i take elavil (amitriptyline) ( amitriptyline ) along with my rheumatoid arthritis medications 2 control pain but it causes morning headaches.how 2 stop these headach?

Headaches may result: from all 3 meds Plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine), Norco (hydrocodone and acetaminophen) (acetaminophen/hydrocodone), Elavil (amitriptyline), rheumatoid arthritis, Iron deficiency anemia, ovarian cyst and stress. Using amitriptyline together with hydrocodone may increase side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, and difficulty concentrating. Seek evaluation. Use lifestyle changes and stress reduction. Best regards for relief.

why did my doctor prescribe me elavil (amitriptyline) for fibromyalgia when i said i didn't want more medication and i just asked for a referral to a chiropractor?

Not sure: Best way to treat fibromyalgia is with improving sleep quality and regular aerobic exercise.  There is evidence that regular practice of taichi can be helpful.  Not sure if chiropractic manipulations will help.

Elavil (amitriptyline): has mostly anticholinergic side effects (dry mouth, constipation, elevated heart rate) just the opposite of parasympathetic.  The calming effect is due to a much more complex interaction of excitatory and inhibitory neurotransmitters further up stream (cortex and deep gray matter structures like the thalamus, the hypopithalamus, putamen, globus pallidus, nucleus accumbens, ventral tegmental area.)

will i get more pain relief from nerve pain if i use a combination of both drugs like elavil and lyrica, (pregabalin) than if i used just one ?

Accepted Answer

Most likely: Since they attack "nerve" pain by different mechanisms then there is a potential for additive benefit. They are often used in combination for that purpose.

Keep in mind that medications like this do not work right away, so if you can tolerate as they "get into your system" over the course of a few weeks you will be able to see if they truly work for you.

D/C it, or diet: Elavil (amitriptyline) often causes wt gain. If it could be replaced with another antidepressant, then have your md d/c it and replace it - but you'll still need to do some exercise to help lose the wt. If you can't d/c the elavil, (amitriptyline) then you have to be aggressive about wt management: watching caloric intake and doing vigorous exercise. In worst cases, sometimes an appetite suppressant is used too.

is it possible for you to get high on elavil (amitriptyline)?

No: A person may become manic on it, but there are no drug-like highs no be gotten off it.
