A member asked:

Do the drugs olanzapine, zoloft (sertraline) and elavil work on the parasympathetic nervous system to calm you down ?

Elavil (amitriptyline): has mostly anticholinergic side effects (dry mouth, constipation, elevated heart rate) just the opposite of parasympathetic. The calming effect is due to a much more complex interaction of excitatory and inhibitory neurotransmitters further up stream (cortex and deep gray matter structures like the thalamus, the hypopithalamus, putamen, globus pallidus, nucleus accumbens, ventral tegmental area.)
