: Just follow all the standard healthy lifestyle advice you already know:  eat a balanced diet that's low on red meat, exercise, keep height/weight proportionate, don't smoke, take alcohol and other mind-altering drugs in moderation (if at all), use seat belts and take other reasonable precautions against injury, and have safe sex.

sudden onset tingling and pins and needles after drinking alcohol.  liver and kidney labwork is normal.  ncv and emg normal.  brain mri norml.  cause?

Alcohol: Alcohol alters nerve conduction by occupying the GABA receptor in the brain. Tingling can sometimes occur. If it is on both sides, that is the likely cause. If you want to avoid it in the future, avoid alcohol. If you develop weakness of arm or leg on one side, slurred speech, or other concerning symptoms, go to the ER. Hope this helps!

prescribed zanaflex (tizanidine) for spasm. haven't slept well all week. doc said would knock me out. wide awake. i have pbc of liver. i thought soma pref?

Soma (carisoprodol) not preferred: Soma is not a good medication, there are terrible problems with addiction to that drug. Flexeril (cyclobenzaprine hcl) is another alternative for spasm. Also make sure you are well hydrated and add a multivitamin/multimineral supplement daily.  Stretching, warm soaks and daily exercise can also help prevent spasms.

61yr male taking prevacid 30mg daily, lyrica (pregabalin) 100mg 2x day, advil 400mg every other day &oxycodone 5/325 & soma 350 3-4x a week. worried kidney damage?

Is advil (ibuprofen) needed ?: Long term use, even every other day, esp. when older, can lead to kidney issues.So the question is Advil offering a discernible benefit as you have Oxy. If the answer is no, then stop Advil as it's also requiring use of Prevacid (lansoprazole) which will not minimize renal risk. Since many take NSAIDs for arthritic pain there are topical options including Lidocaine.Voltaren, however is a topical NSAID option

i am experiencing severe muscle spasms in my lower back. i have meloxicam 7.5 mg and soma 350 mg. is one of these more effective than the other?

Both: Soma is a muscle relaxant while meloxicam is an anti-inflammatory. I think you could take both. However there may be a strong element of tension and stress in your symptoms. Accordingly stress management therapy should be considered as well as evaluation for depression. Don't try to fight these symptoms without professional help as continual stress and depression wear you down affecting health

Wouldn't surprise me: "liver detox diets" are widely varied and are not evidence-based medicine. Use them at your own risk -- they have landed people in the intensive care unit. Your personal physician -- who unlike an internet "independent thinker / persecuted humanitarian" is obligated by law to tell the truth -- is your best guide to health, be it liver function, diet, or whatever's troubling you now. Basics: Nitrofurantoin was approved in 1989 for use as an antibiotic under the supervision of a physician. It has been prescribed millions of times &amp; remains on the market due to it's proven safety in general use. Any individual patient may have a reaction to any antibiotic or side effects. Monitoring of such issues by the treating physician is always a standard of practice.

Depends: There is no single medication that does everything. All BP meds lower BP about 10 points or so with individual differences. The best one for you depends on what other health issues you may have: kidney disease? Angina? Congestive heart failure?  Diabetes? Prostate enlargement? There are different best BP meds for each.
