Gonorrhea can be transmitted to the baby as it goes through the birth canal during delivery. The resulting infections can lead to blindness, infected joints and even death if the blood becomes infected.

Depends: Recognition & treatment of gonorrhea during pregnancy does not necessarily harm the fetus. The infection can remain localized to external glandular structures and the exterior cervix without invading the fetus. Other std's like syphillis have a variable effect. If untreated, the baby may acquire gc and lose vision from a tremendous eye infection. If concerned get tested & treated.

Test and treat: Gonorrhea of the eyes (ophthalmia neonatorum, gonococcal conjunctivitis) is unusual after C-section, mainly from vaginal delivery. Make sure baby tested positive for gonorrhea; other eye infections can appear identical. If gonorrhea confirmed or uncertain, for sure you need to be tested and treated for gonorrhea, even if your own test is negative. Your sex partner(s) also need treatment.

Gonorrhea is quite easily transmitted and you may experience "systemic infection" (infection spreads via blood) and could potentially be fatal.
