Generally, self medication with stimulants usually occurs with longer acting ones like methamphetamine or cocaine.  All of these illicit drugs are dangerous, with reasonably high mortality even after a single use.  Often"e" users "stack" the pills.

Seek help?: This is an intersting question. As a co-worker of mine used to say: do you feel you were victimized by the abuse? If yes, or if you are bothered by the fact you were abused then yes. There a few people who are very psychologically strong or whose abuse was not too bad, where we can say they were abused but not victimized. May be getting a consult will help you decide.

Recreational drug abusers are seeking friendship, an activity that brings them together, gives some pleasure, and because is it illegal creates bonds. Smoking starts smoking among friends as does unhealthy alcohol use; control can go later. Addiction to opiates is treacherous in folks with chronic pain.
