ear wax stuck in ear? i took a shower last night and i still have some sort of water/wax buildup impairing my hearing in my left ear. i tried dropping rubbing alcohol in it and using an expired tube of debrox, but no luck, yet also no physical pain.

Hello. : Hello. Your doctor (or an ear/nose/throat doctor= otolarygologist) can extract excess ear wax quite easily. If impacted wax is decreasing your hearing - he or she can use a wax extractor. Please don't stick objects in your own ears to remove it- as you could injure yourself.  If it is fluid in the outer ear, you might have otitis externa (but that can be uncomfortable) or maybe water from your shower. If you have fluid in your middle ear, it might otitis media. Otitis media can sometimes just be a fluid build up and at other times can be caused by an infection.I don't recommend placing expired substances in the external ear canal. To be frank, i can't tell the location of  your symptoms. So, if it remains problematic, would have it examined to determine the etiology and then options to resolve it can be provided.

Impacted ear wax: Impacted ear wax or cerumen is best softened with either hydrogen peroxide, debrox, Cerumenex or olive oil. I have found peroxide to be quite successful at softening ear wax at minimal expense. I do not recommend self irrigating your ear. Have your primary care provider check your ear(s) and clean them or refer you to an ear, nose and throat specialist as needed. Please do not use q-tips. Ever.

Otitis externa: Some people develop chronic itchy ears due to inflammation of the external canal skin. This is often exacerbated by Q-tip use, frequent cleaning with Debrox, alcohol, or hydrogen peroxide.A little wax is helpful, as it is a moisturizer for the canal and also repels water and other irritants. See an ENT doctor as there are some medications that can help reverse the chronic symptoms.

i've had conductive hearing loss for a month now, after rubbing ear hard one day. if i wait more months to get impacted ear wax cleaned out due to covid, do i still have a high chance of regaining my normal hearing?

Probably not: Ear wax does not cause pain and there is no need to clean it out. Infants often grab their ears if they have pain, either from teething or an infection. If he is drooling, he may be teething. If he has cold symptoms, it may be an ear infection. If it really seems to bother him, try Tylenol for pain relief. If it persists for many days or he seems ill with fever, he may need to be seen by a doctor.

Stop using alcohol: What you have been doing is dangerous and is likely damaging to your ear. Symptoms that you have been experiencing could be a sign of ear damage. Do not use ethyl alcohol in your ear and see a physician promptly.

Ear wax: Have never heard of an ear wax "test".   Wax is just made up of dead skin and oils secreted from glands. Not much you could learn from it by having it "tested" so i would say not real.

Do not use Q tips!: Ear wax protects and moisturises the skin of the ear canal, fights infections and protects the ear drum. Washing your hair regularly  is enough to keep the ear canals clean, just wipe the outside with a wash cloth. If there is production of excess wax or impaction your doctor can prescribe a medication or remove it with a curette or ear wash. Don't use q-tips as it just impacts the wax more.

Oxidation ?: Long standing cerumen in the ear canal can turn black by oxidation.  Not to worry except to make sure it is not a blood clot.

Skin and wax gland: Cerumen or ear wax is a product of sloughed off dead skin and the compound produced by your cerumen glands in your outer ear canal. The consistency can range from moist to dry and flaky. It depends on the relative oil content of the cerumen gland product and amount of sloughed off skin.
