i need an effective way to remove ear wax at home, i see these tools with a spiral at the end, do these work? they say they do not push the wax like a qtip, instead you spin the spiral to collect the wax so you can get it out, are these safe?

why does the inner ear itch? is qtips in ear not good for you? what if i use it too often? its become habit. is it infected? is it ear wax?

Never use QTIPS!: The use of QTIPS to “clean” the ears often causes micro-trauma to the ear canal and actually impacts the wax instead of removing it.  The itching can occur from the damage or as it heals.  Wax is there for a reason and is best left alone.  If it bothers you, try cerumenex over the counter to remove.  If you have drainage from the ear canal or pain, you may be infected and should be seen.

Likely a scratch: The walls of the ear canal are thin, and bleed easily with trauma. You likely scratched the wall on the side. We encourage parents to avoid putting Q tips in the ear for this and other reasons.The wax is made in the outer half of the canal and will fall out over time.Q-tips can push it back and plug the whole ear. Your doc can verify the scratch or be sure you didn't hurt the ear drum.

Let it drain out: by itself , usually melted wax comes out of ear canal and clean with Q tips. Some times is very thick may not come out then you need to see your doctor

Scratch: The likely source of the blood is abrasion to the ear canal wall caused by the q-tip, if not at this time, then previously. In general, we advise you never use a q-tip or any solid device in your ear as it is a blind procedure and you're likely to impact the wax (push it against the drum). Liquids are okay like warmed oil, hydrogen peroxide, or cerumenex. Doctors use an otoscope or mirror to see.

Probably: The wax will cause water to be retained in your ear canal and lead to the swimmer's ear infection. Unfortunately, removing the waxdoesn't get rid of the infection. You will need to see your doctor and get it checked out.

Question vague but: Someone should look inside. Unless a person is very good at cleaning wax from her ears (we doctors do not recommend such activities), she won't be able to tell how much wax is inside. That means somebody else has to look into the ear.

Ear flushing: Waterpiks use high pressure water, and i would be concerned about damage to the ear drum with this.  I wouldn't use anything stronger than the bulb syringe that comes with the wax removal kits you can get at the drug store.
