Pain UNDER: and BEHIND ear may be due to INFLAMMED/ENLARGED  LYMPH GLANDS!
This may come from an EXTERNAL OTITIS (infection outer ear/canal or from some VIRAL INFECTIONS (Classic = German Measles)

Viral infection: With stuffy noses, mucus, a viral infection (URI) is most likely the cause of fever. such illnesses usually have cough, that can result in vomiting. Treat with generic Tylenol (acetaminophen) and suction mucus with a bulb syringe to clear the upper airway. If fever persists beyond a week or so, he should be checked for the usual complication like an ear infection. Your doctor may also prescribe Liquid Claritin.

Might be a cold: Virus. Cold symptoms can include nasal congestion, runny nose, coughing, headache, sneezing, sore throat, watery eyes, mild fever, feeling tired ; watery eyes. For significant sore throat with swollen tonsils / lymph nodes –  see physician ; get a strep throat test/ culture.

Possible allergies: changes in the atmosphere or barometric changes can trigger allergies. Time to get examined and tested for same.

Stuffy, clogged ears: It is not uncommon for ears to feel stuffy and clogged when allergies flare up, when you experience a change in altitude or during the course of a cold. Sometimes this can happen as an ear infection evolves. This is from dysfunction of the eustachian tube.
Treatment does not always lead to immediate resolution, and can include antihistamines, nasal antinflammatories, and oral steroids.
