More likely muscle: Typically the sound is muscle sliding over a joint.  It can pinch a nerve but more often catches tendon part.  Can cause inflammation  and over the counter anti-inflammatory can help (ibuprofen, naproxen, etc) can help.  If doesn't improve or have numbness or cold arm/hand seek medical attention.

Varies : Multiple potential causes, but high among the considerations is a cervical radiculopathy, which is basically an irritation of a nerve in the neck causing pain or numbness in the arm.  Consider being seen for an accurate diagnosis.

Multiple causes: You may have jaw joint disfunction (TMD) which is a dental problem. The sore joint would be just in front of the ear. This could cause neck ache but no arm coldness.  Sympathetic nervous responses are highly variable and respond negatively to tension.  Relax, do grind your teeth or clench your jaw.

Mult. possibilities: Multiple possibilities. You might have a "pinched nerve" in the neck. This can be caused by a disc bulge in the neck that is pressing or irritation a nerve. Other causes could include muscle pain due to tightness/ poor posture  other neurologic causes need to be ruled out . Carpal tunnel syndrome is a possibility as well. See your doctor for diagnostic testing and an appropriate treatment program.

Irritated nerve: Those symptoms together raise suspicion for an irritated or pinched nerve in your neck. I would first see your primary care doctor for diagnosis and initial rx.

PRESSURE ON NERVES: Pain in neck radiating down the arm usually is from pressure on the nerves that originate from the neck

Heat and pillow: that is a good news . That mean your problem is a pure muscle spasm. Use Heat pad and s better pillow ant a better sleeping mattress.try to relax and reduce your stress

Refer to answer: This is usually due to disc herniation form your neck. You can try over the door cervical traction with 10 lbs of water for 10 minutes once or twice a day. Also avoid over 10 lbs push pull, and lift. Avoid looking up. Also take magnesium of 250 mg per day. If problem persists beyond two weeks, refer to your  physician for work up, xray and mri.
