at night my mouth gets so dry my tongue hurts in the morning. harmful?

What's the cause?: It's not healty, but i'm more concerned about why your mouth gets so dry.  Are you taking any medications that might cause it?  Do you have a sinus infection causing you to 'mouth breath' at night?  Is it simply a very warm, dry room (get one of the cold steam humidifiers and run it by your bed at night...).

have a quick question? i've recently have had dry mouth in the morning.  from this i have no pain but seems like there is tiny bumps on tip of tongue?

Dry mouth; bumps: There are numerous causes of dry mouth: mouth breathing, medications, congestion, blocked nasal passages, etc. The bumps are probably normal anatomy, although they may be more prominent from the dry mouth. See your dentist and\or physician to discuss causes and for a one on one clinical evaluation just to be sure.

Tongue: Have you tried a tongue scraper?  Most of what you see on your tongue is bacteria which can cause bad breath. A tongue scraper removes most of the bacteria. You can find a tongue scraper at the drug store. I find they work better than brushing your tongue with a toothbrush.

Need to examine: It would require an examination to provide an informed opinion, however, it you do not have cough, difficulty swallowing or breathing difficulty, it is not a cause for concern.

i slur a sentences on occasion. its only at night or in the morning and its not very often. started a few months ago. i use and e cigarette and have dry mouth. i also take klonopin long tern and lexapro and that is side effect. could it be ms?

: Before I suspect MS, I would look for other scattered neurological symptoms &amp; signs. Parkinsonism can start like that but the slurring speech symptoms wouldn't be so few and far between. ALS.or myasthenia gravis aren't likely in my opinion.  Dry mouth,klonopin and fatigue may be more likely causes in your case. If you're still concerned you can consult a neurologist for evaluation and advice.

Artificial saliva?: Artificial saliva can help reduce the dryness. Keep your mouth closed during sleep--using a chin-strap.
If you are on medications--many can cause dry-mouth, consult with your doc about them.

Hard to know: First thought would be that you open your mouth during sleep &amp; this dries your mouth. Your nose is designed to add moisture to air so it reaches high humidity in the lungs. The mouth can also do this but not as well. I would not assume it involves your diabetes.

Absolutely: Odor sources: gut, plaque (germs), pus (infection), cavities (rotting tooth). See your dentist to find the reason for yours. Until then: avoid foods that cause it (garlic, onions, certain spices); floss and brush your teeth (every night); use listerine (essential oils help), and cut out the extra sugars. Many odors come from the tongue, so consider using a tongue scraper to help clean the tongue.

Dr. can check throat: New throat symptoms can be from a strep throat infection (antibiotics are needed), a cold or influenza (antibiotics usually not used), or from some other cause such as allergies, irritants, or stomach acid reflux. Usually, a person sees the doctor if the sore throat is bothersome, recurrent, or doesn't go away quickly. If "dry mouth" persists, the doctor can check for other disorders.

Brush and eat: Obviously brushing thoroughly will remove the film that has collected on your teeth overnight. An additional source of breath malodor in the morning is sometimes referred to as "hungry breath" and comes from the stomach. Eating something small, especially a bread product will eliminate it quickly. If neither works, get your mouth examined for a specific dental problem like decay or gum disease.
