Dry skin: Dry skin patches are very common, and may be caused by atopic dermatitis (eczema), fungal infections or other inflammatory skin diseases.  Usually they are nothing to worry about.  Try putting some moisturizer or Vaseline on it and show your doctor at your next visit.  If it is growing larger or has different colors, get it looked at sooner.

Rash on Hip: Without seeing the lesion it is almost impossible to make a diagnosis.  This could be eczema which is dry skin and treated with prescription topical cortisone. This could be a fungal infection which is treated with antifungal medication. This could also be an allergic contact dermatitis which is treated with prescription topical cortisone. The allergic agent must be removed.

Possibly a birthmark: These normally are birthmarks composed of either nevus cells or other cells of the dermis which are increased in number.  It should be evaluated by your pediatric dermatologist.

Determine Cause: Prior to recommending treatment, it is important to determine the etiology of the dryness.  The possible causes may be trauma, chemical irritation, allergy, infection, or cutaneous malignancy.  Consultation with a physician  will aid in this determination.

Not shampoo.: It's not shampoo if you've tried several kinds, and if the back of the neck is the only area affected. Cause could be any number of things. Try Hydrocortisone cream (available otc at any drugstore) - if that doesn't work you'll need to see a dermatologist for a precise diagnosis.

is triple antibiotic ointment a good treatment for a small dry patch of skin with a cut in it?

Could be.: When you say small patch of dry skin with a cut in it i wonder if you might have atopic dermatitis with a fissure.  Atopic derm would be better treated with a topical steroid after the fissure is healed, but if indeed you got cut the triple abx is ok.

i have a small pink-red dry patch of skin that is not itchy or painful on my lower buttock, is it a rash? what could be the cause?

It depends.: You might have been born with it.  This happens sometimes, and is usually called a port wine stain, or simply a discoloration of the skin due to lack of pigment.  It also might be a lesion/cut/bite that healed long ago and stayed red.  If you have others, it could be a skin condition from some disease.  It would be wise to see your doctor to be sure, or just be aware of it if you are ok otherwise.

DontGiveAnyLipOnThis: Better have it checked, especially if you've been in the sun a lot. It could be the beginnings of a  little skin cancer (which is easy to treat if caught early) or a pre-cancer (which is easier to treat). Maybe it's just super-dry skin but why take any chances? Just get it seen by a dermatologist. And the rest of your skin, while you're at it. I learned all this the hard way...

ECZEMA: Is there metal in your bra? Probably you are allergic to it and yes it could be eczema on contact dermatitis. If you  are sure that foot lesion is not fungus  that  can spread just eczema then try your steroid cream otherwise see your doctor.
