Many causes: If the dryness is new, it may be dehydration, a medication side effect, or part of an infection.  If it lasts longer, work-up would consider the above options as well as others, such as a possible auto-immune or thyroid issue, or other problems.  
If it persists, see your doctor.

Xerostomia or: Dry mouth and red tongue can be a sign of an underlying medical condition (e.g. Vitamin deficiency). Because most tongue problems are benign and treatable, the prognosis is generally very good. Depending on the cause of your symptoms, your health care provider can recommend appropriate treatment.
Rec.: see your dentist or physician to find out why your mouth is dry.

sometimes wake up at night with avery dry mouth and cannot move my tongue until i drink something?

Mouth breather?: I would suspect you sleep with your mouth open.  when we sleep we all produce less saliva but mouth breathing "drys out" the mouth more.  If you snore, I suspect you may have sleep apnea and you are breathing with mouth open to try to keep your airway open (natural).  If you are chronically fatigued I would see your doctor and ask about getting a sleep study.  you could feel much better

See your PCP: There are many causes of dry mouth (xerostomia) including: mouth breathing, OSA, certain medications, smoking and systemic illnesses (diabetes). Some causes are easily correctable, others are more difficult to treat. Taking good history may be helpful to find the cause and can be of significant value when treating dry mouth symptoms.

Causes and tips: There are causes for dry mouth like medications, systemic diseases and radiation treatment to the head.  Usually the white coating is plaque and can be removed by brushing or more effectively with a tongue scrapper.  The dry mouth is sometimes treated with medication but usually treated with a saliva substitute...  Many otc products.. I like spry because it contains xylotol which kills bacteria.

Oral Thrush?: It could be a fungal infection (Candidiasis) or a host of other things. See your dentist to find out.

took beta alanine and now i have dry tongue. how to fix dry tongue. i don't have dry mouth though, just dry tongue?

Keep hydrated: If dry tongue persists after stopping beta alanine, there could be another cause.
Blood tests could help with diagnosis and treatment.
generally avoid Amino Acids and drink plenty of fluids.

i have a very dry mouth. feels like leather on insides of my checks and sides of tongue. is been like this for about 1 week. how can alleviate this?

Some thoughts below: Dry mouth can result from using some of the medicines. This is often the case after taking anticholinergic drugs such as antihistamines, like Benadryl(often used as a sleep-aid, or decongestants for treating common cold. The solution is either to reduce the amount of any such drugs being used or stop it. You can also use saliva producing aids like Lemon drops, hard candy or chewing gum for relief.

the right side of my tongue swells up for no reason, and i also get dry mouth with this. it has happened recently, and also occurred last month. why?

Angioedema?: Could be angioedema which may be hereditary, acquired or even related to medications particularly angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors such as lisinopril.  See your doc as this can potentially compromise your airway and may be avoidable.

have a quick question? i've recently have had dry mouth in the morning.  from this i have no pain but seems like there is tiny bumps on tip of tongue?

Dry mouth; bumps: There are numerous causes of dry mouth: mouth breathing, medications, congestion, blocked nasal passages, etc. The bumps are probably normal anatomy, although they may be more prominent from the dry mouth. See your dentist and\or physician to discuss causes and for a one on one clinical evaluation just to be sure.
