why do so many medications cause dry mouth and constipation?

Hydration: Many meds have significant side effects that involve decreased water blood level that produce these unplesant symptoms. It is that much more important to stay hydrated throughout the day (6-8 glasses of water). If you continue with these unpleasant symptoms even with hydration, consult your treating physician to consider any possible alternatives.

MOM: And plenty of non caffeinated fluids, 80-100 oz per day. No solid food until full evacuation. If no recent colonoscopy and this problem recurs she should get a colonoscopy.

Seasonal flu: Seasonal flu is very common viral infection. Usually the condition resolves on its own with home care. Drink water and get a good rest. Nsaids (e.g. Aleve) are also recommended every 6 hours. If concerned, see your pcp for reevaluation.

Drink More Fluids: Most people don&#x27;t drink nearly enough fluids. Drink water enhanced with electrolytes like Smart Water or Pedialyte. NOT Gatorade. Too much sugar!  6 to 8, 8 ounce glasses of water are needed especially on hot days. Stay away from soft drinks, tea and coffee. They are actually dehydrating. Consider a fiber product like FiberCon if constipation continues.

does low iron anemia contribute to constipation and cause dry mouth? once fixed by surgery, will more saliva and deficating occur? 23year old female

See details: What issue gets 'fixed' by surgery? Iron deficiency is not related to either issue although the problem that causes the iron deficiency may also cause constipation.

Dry mouth: dry mouth/sore throat may be interrelated.  If the infection (you have a fever) has caused partial airway obstruction you could be treating through mouth rather than nose.  See your PCP to determine cause of your fever and appropriate treatment.  If fever disappears and you still have dry mouth/sore throat, then see your Dentist or an ENT.

dry mouth, severe stomach pain, constipation, insomnia. i suffer with ibs and after running out of my usual stomach pills (omeprazole) tried remegel?

Stomach pain: You have stomach pain but why is unclear. The omeprazole tells your stomach cells to secrete less acid. You don't say if that made you feel better. Then you took another medicine which neutralizes the acid in the stomach. Again you don't report on how you feel with it. So talk with your doc or get another!

Need further: Follow up with physician or if he/she is unable to diagnose then seek referral to someone else.  Additional tests might also be indicated.  Have you been traveling overseas - any third world countries ?
