an optometrist who had very dry fingers was rough with my eyes. what are symptoms of scratches to cornea/conjuntiva/sclera etc that i can monitor?

Foreign sensation : If your cornea or conjunctiva was scratched during examination, you would have moderately severe pain, tearing, photophobia, inability to fully open eyelid, and ocular redness. Your vision could be very blurry too, depending what part was scratched. A discharge may also result. If these symptoms are absent, but you have some irritation, try using preservative free artificial tears every 1-2 hours.

Use artificial tears: If still problem after artificial tears see ophthalmologist.  May consider Restasis a medication that increases tear production or plugs in tear drainage system.

See a doctor: Dry eye syndrome in just one eye is unusual.  You should see an ophthalmologist.

i was told i shouldn't wear color contacts due to my dry eye. but now i have had lipiflow and my symptoms are gone. can i wear color contacts now?

Accepted Answer

Possibly: Discuss this with the ophthalmologist who administered the lipiflow.  Eyes vary in their fluid balance and sensitivity and you might be able to wear them  There is a minimal essential difference between colored contacts and contacts worn for vision.

Re try: If you have had success with Lipiflow, then it is a good time to re try the issue of wearing contact lenses with your ophthalmologist.  Hopefully it will work well for you.

what should i do if i have been experiencing dry eye symptoms for around 3-6 weeks. does this seem a bit too excessive for dry eye alone?

No: Chronic dry eye symptoms can certainly last that long. Certain conditions will exacerbate the symptoms and certainly changes in the weather will effect your dry eyes. See an ophthalmologist for a complete exam for further treatment. You may have seasonal allergies too.

what are the symptoms for corneal erosion caused by dry eyes ?

Accepted Answer

: Generally there is irritation and redness.  There will be paradoxically intermittent tear overflow.  Generally the vision is not disturbed.  Erosion will sometimes also cause light sensitivity.  Of course, the symptoms will be diminished by the use of lubricating eye drops.

Pink eye: Conjunctivitis is typically caused by viral infection with adenovirus.  Howevr, the infection can be bacterial or secondary to an allergy. Dry eyes or xerophthalmia can be a cause. This can be from enviromental causes or medications.

the flash on my iphone 7 accidentally went off right in my face when i was lying in bed in the dark. could this very bright flash have damaged my eyes? ive been having a lot of dry eye symptoms and blurriness since this happened. could it be related?

IPhone blinded?: Not likely but check with local eye Dr.  Don't do it often.

how can you tell the difference between dry eyes from eye allergies? symptoms?

Accepted Answer

: This is not obvious by questions asked. The symptoms overlap and a person may suffer from both low tear production &amp; airborne eye allergies at the same time. The common clinical approach would be to use simple antihistamine eye drops on a trial basis for a week or so to see if it helped.
