Hormone changes: Hormone changes are most likely but if you are not drinking as much (possibly due to nausea or sickness) and are dehydrated, that would also contribute. Use a good moisturizer.

Yes: During pregnancy the areola become darker w thicker tissues ; increases in size. The montgomery glands on the areola become larger.

what causes the pain around the areola during pregnancy?

Accepted Answer

Engorgement: Breast tissue normally expands, and later becomes engorged. The stretching of the skin around the breast can often lend itself to pain around the areola. The areola is also hypersensitized during pregnancy and after delivery to help with breastfeeding and this can cause some irritation/pain as well. My wife used cocoa butter when she was pregnant and it helped her. Ob will have other treatments.

Not true : If you think you might be pregnant check then check a home pregnancy test. They are cheap, reliable and available  at any pharmacy.

GYN MD visit needed: The first thing to do is to do a pregnancy test. If that is negative, then see a GYN MD as there are multiple causes for irregular periods.

Assuming : Assuming that a large areola is your only concern, yes, you could have those reduced.  I do not know whether your breast is stretched and sagging from pregnancy and would benefit from a lift, and whether your breast is deflated and would benefit from an implant, but if your only problem is related to the areolar size, then you could have them reduced and some periareolar scars would result...Although they usually are satisfactory in appearance.  However, if you are planning on a future pregnancy, we cannot predict what alterations in your breast may occur, and if there is additional stretching of the areola, you might require a revision following pregnancy.

Could be!: Pregnancy is associated with enlargement of the breasts and changes to the areola.  These changes can also be due to a number of other things, however, such as the timing within the menstrual cycle.  Over the counter urine pregnancy tests are incredibly sensitive - they are the same as used by hospitals and doctors offices.  Feel free to buy the cheapest one and trust the result.

randomly breasts hurt, and bumps on areola. i am on continuous pill but near the last week, or is this common with pregnancy? could it be from pill?

The bumps on the: Areola are likely montgomery glands. They can enlarge with pregnancy.  Breast pain could be the result of pregnancy, oral contraceptives, pms or your period.  If you miss a period - then take a home pregnancy test. Take care.
