so i have one droopy eyelid. i believe they call it ptosis?  what can be done to fix it?

Surgery: Surgery can be performed on the upper eyelid levator tendon (the "pulley" that raises the eyelid) tightening it.  This surgery is done from the outside / anterior approach through the eyelid.  Repair can also be do on the back side of the eyelid by inverting the eyelid and tightening the lid tendon / muellers muscle.

can you please discuss the condition called where one eyelid isn't symmetric with the other?

Ptosis: I presume you are referring to the asymmetric height of the eyelids. When not symmetric & one droops more then the other, its called ptosis. It's possible to have one push out too far compared to the other and this is termed proptosis. There is also phimosis, which is abnormally narrowed opening. Different causes for these are best to have an eyemd evaluate to disclose the underlying cause.

Inclusions: The most common type of bubble like growths on the inside of the eyelid are inclusion cysts, or essentially balloon-like growths related to tear producing glands.  They may also have white or yellow protein debris inside. They are generally harmless and don't need treatment.

Ophthalmologist: You may have blepharitis and/or eyelid rosacea.

what is an eyelid condition called a chilasium(sp)? causes, effects, long term results? how does one care for such a condition?

Accepted Answer

Chalazion: It's a small sore bump within the eyelid generally caused by a blocked oil gland.

To help it resolve you may apply warm compresses a few times daily to encourage it to drain spontaneously; but please resist the urge to "pop" it or pick at it.

An antibiotic may be prescribed for this by a physician.

If it is very large and painful or lasts for weeks, an opthalmologist may surgically remove it.

See eye doc: This could be an infection, esp if it is worsening and throbbing. I would see an ophthalmologist.

if a stye occurs inside the eyelid, it is called an internal hordeolum. how dangerous is a internal hordeolum?

Accepted Answer

Not very: These usually cause the whole lid to get inflamed for a while, and then localize at one point in the internal lid.  There is no danger to vision or the health of the eye.  It would be rare for it to even affect the basic lid structure although they can be uncomfortable and ugly looking.

i always get small pimples under my eyelids, why is that? its super annoying and some people call it a stye or something. is it an infecection?

Yes, local infection: A stye is a likely diagnosis and is a local infection caused by a plug sweat gland.  You should see an ophthalmologist for further care if it returns.

Phosphenes: Pushing on the eye puts indirect pressure on the retina. This stimulation causes the retina to give off the only signal it knows - light sensation. The ring of light caused by the finger is called a phosphene. Repeated pressure on the eye can be harmful, so beware.

Stye: It is called a stye
you can put warm wet compresses on it and it may burst and clear up, if not see your doctor as you may need antibiotics.Rarely you may need incisio and drainage.
