? ruin ?: It won't matter if you have alcohol coursing through your blood as far as healing goes.However, if the person gets falling down drunk the possible injuries encountered could tear up the repair.

Can I have a beer? : Discuss with your Dr who knows you. If you are an alcoholic I would say no. Also a beer can vary from 1/2 cup to a liter or more. What is your definition of a beer?  Then I can answer better.

Difficult question: If you had clear reflux before i would be very cautious with heavy drinking. Social drinking in moderation too. You are very young and do not do damage to your esophagus, it is a precious organ!

As tolerated: You can start drinking alcohol when you're no longer taking narcotic pain medication, and as you tolerate it. Moderation is always good.

No: If you had the surgery one week ago you should not be experiencing symptoms. Could be some other issue, but I would let your surgeon know about the issue.

i had hiatal hernia repair on wednesday along with bypass surgery. how long does the gas or acid reflux last. i have been drinking now and belching and i thought this was instant relief.  the belching occurs when i swallow. its all in my collarbone ?

Surgery succesful: There are three types of surgery for hiatal hernia: Nissen fundoplication , open repairs, and endoluminal fundoplication.After laparoscopic surgery, most people  may feel discomfort in their abdomen and chest and have difficulty swallowing. This usually passes within 48 hours. Patient should avoid foods that cause gas and bloating. Eat several smaller meals throughout the day ,Reg. food 4-6 wks.

what is the best way to prepare for robotic inguinal hernia repair in the days leading up to surgery . are the drinks like ensure pre surgery of any value. is it best to eat lightly the day prior to surgery ? i am trying to prepare in the best ways.

Prop: Your suggestions are good. One tip I give patients is to insure that their bowel movements won't be difficult. Take stool softener, don't be dehydrated, eat fiber rich foods or take Metamucil a few days before surgery,  and consider having a rectal glycerin suppository on hand, just in case. Of course,don't eat.or drink(unless you need morning meds) after midnight the night before surgery.
