Hard to say: Mono often causes liver inflammation and that is where the toxins in alcohol must be broken down. If you drink while the liver is already compromised, you increase the chance of liver injury.Light drinking might not stir up a big problem, but keeping that in mind could help you avoid some harsh consequences.

I : I would recommend waiting for 2-3 months total.  Be sure you aren't taking tylenol (acetaminophen) which you probably already know.  If you had elevated liver function tests you should wait longer.  Only drink very small amounts 1-2 drinks until you are sure you can tolerate it.  As i don't know your blood laboratory studies, you should also check with your doctor to be sure you didn't have very elevated liver function tests.

Mono: Mono causes you to feel weak all by itself.  It tends to make people tired and fatigued.  Alcohol is a suppressant and causes drowsiness, slowed responses.  Together, the effects will likely be exacerbated or made worse.  I wouldn't recommend mixing the two, it could result in a very long rip van winkle-like nap.

ive had mono for around 12 days with heavy symptoms and high fever, took steroids and ever since than i feel a lot better i did not have symptoms and continued my regular routine for around two weeks now, when can i start drinking alcohol again?

: I would avoid it for a few more weeks. Mono causes a mild hepatitis (liver infection)  in many patients and the liver is where the alcohol must be broken down, a process slowed by the inflammation.

i had mono in late january and in march i got my bloodwork tested and it was all normal except bilirubin 2.2 mg/dl. alt & ast both normal as well. i have been moderately drinking alcohol. should i go back and get my blood retested? i feel 100% healed

Some basics: Mono is a multi-system disease &amp; can cause a hepatitis. A normal AST &amp; Alt suggest it is not active but there may be another reason your bili is up, including a benign defect in bilirubin transport you may have had forever. If it were me I would want to sort out the reason for the elevation.

? timing issue ?: Since mono often produces liver inflammation it is wise to avoid alcohol consumption while symptomatic. Since alcohol is broken down by the liver, the illness can intensify the risk of liver injury by alcohol. Most adults are symptomatic for 3-4 wks, while a few remain so for 3 months. Avoiding alcohol until you are well past the symptomatic stage is recommended.

Liver issues: It is common for mono sufferers to have a mild hepatitis during the illness.This reduces the livers ability to clear and detoxify alcohol  in a routine way, & increases the possibility of liver toxicity with alcohol.

No and NO!: Alcohol is bad for your immune system, makes you more susceptible to a variety of infections and makes it harder for you to get over them. If you are sexually active, you are spreading your mono, which unless you inform your sexual partners that you have, you are putting them at risk of your illness.  This is irresponsible, at the very least. In addition, most people with mono need a lot of rest.
