: No. I consider normal values normal values. I do not see this as a rise, but well within the normal range of the testing materials. If it jumped to the 100-200 range or higher I would think something worrisome is happening. With these values, I just ignore them.

Cystic fibrosis: This condition can damage the pancreas as well as the liver and since alcohol may do the same it would be judicious not to drink alcohol.

Let's find why: I'm assuming you're on no meds that could be causing this and that you've been checked for hepatitis b ; c, hemochromatosis, wilson's, antitrypsin deficiency and autoimmune hepatitis. Most of the time, this is nature's way of encouraging you to do more aerobic exercise -- it's as vital to the liver as to the heart though many folks don't know this. Best wishes.

It truly could.: If you drank enough to acutely inflame your liver, then those results would not be reflective of the health of your liver at baseline.  But, if you drink lots and often enough, your liver may not be doing to well anyway.

Get it worked up: Often something as simple as a mild allergy to ibuprofen can do this. Your physician can figure out the cause. If your're free of hepatitis B and C, hemochromatosis, autoimmune hepatitis, and antitrypsin deficiency, you may have one of the genetic fatty liver syndromes. They're not that problematic. While you're waiting, hit the aerobic fitness circuit hard -- your liver will be grateful.

the military wants me to do a liver function test. i used to take adhd medication but that was 2 years ago. i also use to drink a good bit but i haven't got drunk in awhile. should i be concerned? will i pass?

recently i had abnormal results on a liver function test. ast = 215 / alt = 135. drinking is the issue. i don't think i can stop cold turkey. will the liver still be able to heal if i cut back by say 95%? or is abstinence required for liver to heal?

: Cutting by 95% is better than current practice. You should try to quit alcohol entirely. Do not take acetaminophen (Tylenol). 
Alcohol is a poison that never did anybody any good, ever. It will destroy your brain cells, damage testicular cells that make testosterone, facilitate development of cancer in many organs, cause hepatitis, cirrhosis and pancreatitis etc. There is no safe level.

It depends on what y: Alcohol itself can not be detected in the liver but it liver damaging effects can be noted in  blood tests. But only excess of alcohol will cause liver damage in the form of hepatitis. This menifests as increase of liver enzymes which spill over into the blood. The effect comes on quickly like within 24 hrs and lasts for a few days . But more severe damage can cause chronic hepatitis which persist.
