Docs Vary: It is hard to judge the quality of practice of a doctor based what they examine on a single visit. If you like them ask for the exams you would like without judgement. It is perfectly reasonable for you to want your prostate and testicles examined. Perhaps a patient strenuously objected to the offer. It takes getting used to a new doc, but you should begin 2 really trust them soon or switch.

recently (11/19) had colonoscopy. gi doc said he noticed an asymmetrical prostate w/out nodule. had yearly physical & psa was .47. since it was a gi doc that noted it during colonoscopy, is it something i should be concerned about?

Asymmetric prostate: Appears to be a rather benign variant with no clear correlation with prostate cancer. The presence of a nodule is believed to be associated with a higher risk for cancer, in your case no nodule. Best would be to discuss findings with your PCP and see if establishing with an urologist for surveillance would be appropriate.

does the prostate grow as part of the growth process during puberty or is it the same size always?

Accepted Answer

Grows with puberty: The prostate gland secretes a slightly alkaline fluid, milky or white in appearance, that usually makes up about half of the volume of the semen along with sperm and thus considered as part of the male reproductive system.  Testosterone is needed for the normal growth of the prostate and during puberty levels of testosterone accelerate the growth of prostate to the adult size, about walnut size.

i had a prostate exam today. if i did not feel any pain during the examination, does that mean my prostate is good? i felt no pain at all.

There is: usually no pain when prostate is examined .. even milder cases of prostate inflammation do not result in a tender prostate..and (unfortunately) most prostate cancers do no cause discomfort until they spread beyond the "borders" of the gland itself!

Unlikely: It is unlikely that a digital rectal examination would injure the prostate or precipitate prostate inflammation.

No ejaculate...: Usually, no ejaculation will take place on digital rectal exam (dre) due to stress, discomfort, ; pressure from doc's examining finger. But  dre-examined men may have some expressed prostate fluid dripping out urethra from intentional massage to obtain specimen to verify if prostatitis"does exist. 

Or, occasionally, intrarectal electroejaculation may be induced for infertility after spinal cord i.

what physical limitations do you have after prostate removal?

what do you suggest if i had an erection during prostate exam?

Accepted Answer

Most likely...: On digital rectal exam (DRE), a man would very unlikely get an erection due to DRE-related tension / anxiety / local discomfort / short duration. But, erection may happen through the process of nerve reflex while a man is under light sleep of anesthesia. If it does, the anesthesiologist will give drug to ease such for proceeding with the ongoing procedures. Detail? Ask you urologist.
