how long will a hematoma last and hurt? i've had it for 2 wks. it's on lower leg. could it be blood clot. no swelling. just bruised feeling.

LE hematoma: if a skin deep hematoma you can see the " black and blue mark", if  in muscle  diagnosed by ultrasound. Can  take up to a month or so depending on size. There are also bone bruises when the bone marrow gets  edema, muscle sprains,  and there are clots which can be quite dangerous as part can dislodge &amp;move elsewhere like the lung. Please F/U w/doc/ER today may need sonongram

Unusual: Usually hematoma would have resolved by now. Thus I suspect that the problem may be from scar tissue instead of a hematoma.  Even if it were, you would not be able to drain it especially after a year has passed.

Yes: Very common for a hematoma over the shin bone (tibia) not to be absorbed and form a permanent cyst. If does not hurt or get in your way leave it along. Drainung it with a needle often relieves some of the size but usually recurs. Surgery can remove it permanently. Comnsider the risk benifit ratio before you proceed.

Shin bone pain: A hematoma on a shin area is somewhat painful. If it has been elected to drain the hematoma, there should be little pain as they would use an injected local anesthetic to the area of incision.

Sorry to hear you are feeling poorly. We take many factors into account when considering percutaneous drainage of a hematoma. Mechanism of injury, size, location, bleeding risk, infection risk, chronic blood thinner usage, deeper involvement of the joint itself, presence of neurologic symptoms, etc. I would recommend being evaluated by a doctor in person soon. See a doctor: If you have had a knee trauma and it is still swollen and sore you should have plain films and an MRI to rule out a serious injury such as a fracture or internal derangement of the knee like a ligament or meniscus tear. If you have had it drained and it is still not right, you need to go back for re-evaluation.

Knee hematoma: Leg elevation, cool compresses and/or ice, anti-inflammatories once ok with regular doctor.
