Ance: We use doctcycline for inflammatory acne. The dose is 100 mg twice daily. But you also need to use lotions like benzoyl peroxide from 2.5-10%. Good skin care using hypo allergic soap is also important.

While you need it: I was finally able to quit my daily tetracycline when i was about fifty. It may be earlier for you; some women have it vanish when they go on the oral contraceptive pill, or start their families.  I'm glad your present rx is working. Good luck.

Relax: This is the sort of question you're best to discuss with your physician. The worst you can expect from Doxycycline is a bit of diarrhea and maybe (probably not) a yeast infection. If this happens, there are other options. It's a good choice for acne; you can continue using topical benzoyl peroxide as well.

Acne is chronic: Since acne lasts for years, you should take the Doxycycline for several months.  At that time you and your doctor will have to decide if you should stop it or continue it.  The newer thinking is, that to reduce drug resistance, it should be discontinued and used intermittently, but that doesn't work for everyone.

Acne: If it is the deep hormonal type acne around the chin, mouth, nose, and middle forehead area- the only topical that I have seen work is a product from Europe called Juvases teens. It works by inhibiting the action of the hormone on the sebaceous gland so it never erupts in the first place. Also - an excellent gentle scrub is important as well. I like Mandelac acid scrub, professional strength.
