my doc gave me doxycycline for bv and in case it was chlamydia.  the chlamydia results came back fine so is the bv cleared up too?

Not BV: Doxycycline is great for chlamydia, but it is not used to treat bv.

my cycle has been less heavy this month and different. i was on flagyl and doxycycline for a week for bv and what i assume is pid. could that affect my cycle? i finished the flagyl yesterday and i finish the doxycycline tonight. anxious?

: I don't think BV would have any effect on your hormonal balance and affect your menstrual cycle itself. On the other hand a flare of PID could delay the start of your cycle and there would usually be significant associated discomfort. Your gynecologist can advise you best however.

Unusual but may work: That's an unusual antibiotic for bacterial vaginosis, but might work. Presumably the other standard treatments have been tried? (Metronidazole or tinidazole, clindamycin?) If the doctor prescribing doxy is an expert, follow his or her advice. If in doubt, ask for referral to an ObG who specialzes in infectious diseases. It should be possible to get ahead of this. Doxycycline does not: cure BV. you need clindamycin or flagyl to cure. See your Dr. for a prescription.

: The drug of choice for the treatment of Bacterial Vaginosis caused by Gardnerella bacteria is metronidazole followed by clindamycin. Doxycycline can be used and has fewer side effects, but is less effective against this particular organism.

Probably not: Bv is caused by an anaerobic bacteria.  The antibiotics you list are generally used for treating aerobic bacterial infections.

: This is the standard recommended treatment for PID using oral antibiotics and usually is effective. An embedded IUD is not a common cause of PID, but ultrasound showing "swollen" Fallopian tubes is consistent with PID. Good luck.
