Depends: Soaps are useful in some forms or skin allergy, harmful in others & play no role in still others. With contact dermatitis due to poison oak or ivy washing exposed skin with soap & water immediately after exposure may limit absorption of plant allergens. Soap removes oils from the skin worsening eczema. Soap has no effect on hives. Hope that explanation helps.

Yes, patch testing: The most common work related reactions to soaps, creams an lotions is contact dermatitis. This involves itchy scales or blistering reactions that start towards the end of your work day and gradually get worse as the week progresses. A dermatologist or an Allergist that does patch testing would help sort out what chemical in that soap could be causing the problem and which soaps would be safe.

Getting clean: What type of reaction do you have? If it is a specific allergic contact dermatitis you should seek out an allergist or dermatologist who can perform patch tests to determine the offending chemical.  Many soap products are produced specifically for avoidance of contact sensitizers such as preservatives dyes and perfumes. Vanicream is one such product.

Please see below.: It could be eczema or a contact dermatitis. Use a hypoallergenic skin cleanser, avoiding bathing in very hot water, and use a hypoallergenic skin lotion at least 3 times daily, even if there's no rash. Add Hydrocortisone 1% ointment (otc) and an oral antihistamine like zyrtec (cetirizine) if needed.  If doing this doesn't help enough, please see the doctor.

Would be strange: It would be strange to get allergy to all hand soap. It usually starts when you have a skin lesion or skin rashes. Soap can irritate your already inflamed skin and make it worse and hard to heal. Skin lesions need to be seen and examined. See a local allergist or dermatologist for this problem.

Mgt and workup: I would advise using a very basic soap such as white Dove soap. Avoid all perfumed products including shampoo. The reaction may also be to cleaning products and using natural cleaning products and rinsing the tub well prior to bath time may help. 
I would suggest an antihistamine and evaluation.
