Two weeks: After you have been screened thoroughly, you would be taking medications for 10-12 days and then have your eggs retrieved 2 days after receiving HCG injection. You will return for follow up visits but you would not take medications.

Donor or Recipient?: Egg donors are usually &lt;30yo and also screened for good egg quantity. They undergo IVF stimulation and retrieval. Most women do not require pain meds after procedure. We average 15-30 eggs per retrieval. Success rates depend on fresh vs frozen eggs, the number of eggs used for insemination and the quality of the embryos. I hope this answers question.

Questionable: If you are currently taking an alternative to coumadin (warfarin) like Pradaxa, Xarelto Plavix or even aspirin your plasma may not be suitable for donation. Best not to donate.

Telephone screening: Many living kidney donors are evaluated initially in their home states. The early steps include answering telephone screening questions, blood and urine tests to determine kidney function, blood type and compatibility, etc. Only if those are promising will the transplant center want you to be evaluated by a local donation center or to come to their center. Very common to work remotely. Good luck.

Yes, watch set up: The entire "plumbing" set for the machine comes out of one (sterile) package, then the IV solutions are opened and added (one time use). When you are all done, the entire works (minus the platelet collection bag!) is taken down and disposed of.

Normal platelet...: ...Counts are from 150 to 450 k, so it is possible that someone has 3 times more platelets than you but both of you are normal.

There is a great demand for organs (heart, lungs, kidney, liver, pancreas, cornea) and if you are brain-dead, it makes a lot of sense to donate your organs and give a gift of life to others.  However, the decision itself is entirely up to you.

No: The organs don't always work.  Sometimes when they do work the patient's other medical conditions get worse and they die.  Sometimes a problem with the organ (such as an infection or blood type issue) can come up after the transplant and cause major problems.

Dire need of organs: Unfortunately many patients with end-stage organ diseases are in need of organ transplants but the availability of transplantable organs does not meet the need.  In the U.S., an average of 18 patients die while waiting for an organ.  Registering for organ donation gives these patients with end-stage organ diseases a new lease on life after the registered donor dies.
