Tylenol (acetaminophen) PM: This is a combination medication that includes - acetaminophen (Tylenol) and diphenhydramine (Benadryl).  It can be effective for sleep but unless pain or inflammation is associated with your insomnia, the Tylenol may not be a necessary component.

Melatonin, sleep rou: While many OTC meds help with sleep including PM aspirin, Benadryl (diphenhydramine) and specific sleep products. These often leave people feeling hung over the following morning.  They are also not good over the long term.  Melatonin, which you will find in the vitamin section, is effective and safe.  Developing a regular bedtime routine may also help over time and,is your safest and most effective option.

Others: I would try to first find out what is causing the sleep disturbance. May want to see your primary care md to assess. Possible sleeping agents include Benadryl and melatonin, which are over the counter, Ambien , lunesta, sonata, (zaleplon) trazodone, rozerem, etc.

Drug interactions.: Per Drugs.Com drug interaction checker, combining metoprolol with the diphenhidramine in Tylenol PM could cause " lowering your blood pressure. You may experience headache, dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, and/or changes in pulse or heart rate" This does not mean it would occur, it just increases the chances. Melatonin is another option for sleep.

Sleep: The Melatonin and Tylenol can be taken together without issue. Tylenol Pm has Diphenhydramine with it. For a few days the Tylenol PM or the Tylenol alone would be not a problem.

No: In general, it is not ok to always need to take a chemical (a tablet, capsule, elixir, etc...) in order to get to sleep or get better sleep. That can be done temporarily, but should not be the case on an ongoing basis. However, some people's psychiatric or sleep disorders are severe enough (unfortunately) to require ongoing medication. That said, Tylenol used chronically can damage the liver.
