at three months postpartum with my 2nd baby i had midcycle bleed. went for transvaginal ultrasound to check on a uterine polyp i had and it was gone. i did start working out heavy again to lose weight could that have been the cause of midcycle bleed?

: Working out could be a factor, but at only three months postpartum your cycles may still be a little unpredictable. Whether or not you are breast feeding and what you are using for birth control are also potential factors. Unless it is particularly painful or heavy it is not an immediate concern and should be investigated further if it continues to happen with future cycles.

PMP bleeding: The ovaries after menopause shrink to the size of what we call streak ovaries and often times aren't visible on ultrasound or CT scan.  While many women with menopausal bleeding just have atrophy, you have to treat it as endometrial cancer until proven otherwise.  An endometrial biopsy or D&amp;C is warranted here.

Post menopausal blee: The Number one concern for a woman with postmenopausal bleeding is uterine cancer.   While transvaginal US can exclude endomentrial cancer a lind biopsy is warrented if the stripe is greater than 4mm, the endometrium is not visualized or appears thick.

Spotting at 7w ?'s: Spotting at about "7 weeks" of pregnancy may come from inadequate progesterone production from the placenta.  See your OB physician who may prescribe progesterone to supplement placental production.

Of What?: Of a tight, intact hymen? Yes it can. The vagina? If the examiner suddenly thought she or he was churning butter, or had a severe seizure during the exam then it might happen but i never saw such an occurrence.

Varies: A vaginal infection (such as yeast), or a pelvic infect, an ovarian cyst, a uterine infection, etc could make the exam quite painful bit even endometriosis could have that effect as well.  Your doctor should be able to determine what is wrong.

Variety of things: A variety of things could cause it. Vaginal dryness, lack of lubricant on the sonogram, placing too much pressure on the probe, a problem in the bladder, rectum, uterus or ovaries are all a few of the possibilities. Finding out if anything abnormal was found on the sonogram is the next step.

Think of dental work: Vaginal mucosal tissue is similar to that within your mouth -- so, think of what might happen after a dentist works. Occasionally there is some blood that you spit out.

Probably there won't be any spotting, but there is the chance with a probe's manipulating against this soft tissue of a minor bleed.

can a transvaginal ultrasound cause a miscarriage?

Almost impossible. : Compared to intercourse, which is not known to cause miscarriage, a vaginal ultrasound causes much less "agitation" of the uterus. Although sometimes uncomfortable, it would almost certainly not be associated with risk of miscarriage.
