Talk to your doc: If your tsh swung from 5.5 to 0.25 on only 25 mcg of thyroid med, then it's unlikely you have a thyroid problem. Go back and talk to the doc who prescribed the med about this because being hyperthyroid can also cause hair loss.

Hair loss from meds?: Both hypothyroidism as well as hyperthyroidism can cause hair loss. I would recommend seeing a dermatologist or someone expert in the hair loss treatment not due to genetic causes.

Unlikely: If the TSH is normal and other thyroid parameters are normal, then it's not the thyroid or the synthroid (thyroxine) that is causing the hair loss.  You have to look at other etiologies.  There are a lot of other reasons for hair loss: nutrient/mineral imbalances, excess testosterone levels or androgens, medications, diabetes, infection, hair pulling, allergies...

Most likely: Due to the hypothyroidism which is now being treated. It will take months after your thyroid level is normalized for the hair breakage to stop, but you won't permanently lose any hair. It regrows, but takes months.

TSH 2.5 is normal: A TSH of 2.5 indicates normal thyroid status, assuming that the pituitary is working normally.  An evaluation to check this assumption out might be worthwhile at this point.

Synthroid (thyroxine): lasts a long time in your body and hair loss cannot occur in that short a time once you stop it. The levels persist for weeks and decline by only 1/2 every week, Why did you stop and why not restart -- it'll be much healthier for you. The tests were only normal because you were taking the replacement. Your thyroid didn't cure itself.

Wrong assumptions: Iron level not relevant. "Stress" probably not a factor. Very low TSH because of overdosed thyroid probably not part of it. Thin hair on top is very common as women get older. Other meds? Birth control? Menstrual history? Pregnancies? Weight change? When you see a dermatologist be prepared to detail these items. You might be helped by spironolactone or dutasteride.

Not hypothyroid: Your TSH was within normal range(0.4-0.6 ) 4 months ago indicating you were not hypothyroid then and were on the proper dose of Synthroid (thyroxine). Your current Free T4 is within normal limits. However your TSH is slightly low which suggests that your current dose of Synthroid (thyroxine) is slightly too high and can be reduced. YOU ARE NOT HYPOTHYROID and your symptoms are not due to this.

Male hair loss: It  is usually genetic . Minoxidil 5% twice a day  is the treatment of choice . Takes 4-5 months to be effective . Once started , must be continued , if stopped , hair loss will start again .
Biotin may help .
 Shampoos for hair loss &amp; regrowth , once started , must be continued .
Fenasteride 5 Mg 1/4 tab daily works by blocking DHE .( Dihydrotestosterone ) 
May cause Temp reduction in Libido .

Depends on cause: There are many causes of thinning hair and some, like hypothyroidism or vitamin deficiency, are reversible.  Vitamins needed for healthy hair include b3, b5, b6, b12,  biotin ; a, c, d, e ; zinc. While deficiencies can cause hair loss ; taking these may prevent hair loss, they are not proven to restore hair loss in most, but are worth a try.
