Bppv: As the particles "dump" into the part of the inner ear called the vestibule the unsteadiness can last for a variable length of time.  Usually a few days to a week.  Sometimes repositioning needs to be repeated, about 80% effective after one treatment.

No: An epley maneuver is only a benefit in benign positional vertigo. In this condition loose calcium deposits are repositioned into an area where they cannot float freely. This is the only condition in which an epley maneuver is a benefit.

Sometimes helps: The epley maneuver is to treat benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (bppv) dizziness. The maneuver is also called the particle (canalith) repositioning procedure. May need another one: In some cases the Epley maneuver does not work the first time around and you may need a second maneuver in order to completely clear out the debris in the semicircular Canal.

Labyrinthitis? Vert?: From your brief description, it is hard to tell. Use HealthTap Prime or talk to an ear-nose-throat (ENT/Otolaryngologist) to discuss further. It sounds, though, like you have vertigo which can be caused by a loose rock (otolith) in the inner ear (your ear naturally makes the otolith to help determine position. Alternatively, viruses can attack the inner ear but usually cause other symptoms also.GL

Probably not forever: Good question. The epley (; semont) maneuvers are relatively recent discoveries so in the not-too-distant past when people developed this type of vertigo it was usually self-limited (doctors used to blame it on viruses). Besides falling out, the otoconia may dissolve spontaneously. I theorize that herbs known to help dissolve kidney stones like chanca piedra ; golden coin grass might help this too.

Start on worse side: Bppv is unilateral.  You should start the epley manuever with your head tilted 45 degrees toward the worse side.  You will have to experiment to see which is the worse side.  Patient are often not able to predict before they start the epley.

Unlikely : Vertigo/dizziness with ear or sinus infection will improve as infection improves. Epley maneuver helps benign positional vertigo. If dizziness association with infection is disabling, your physician should be able to prescribe or recommend treatment to help your symptoms
