25 y.o. male, no history , bmi 23 and i just experienced sudden increase in gas, flatulence and bloating. my vitamin d level was about 12 so i started supplementing myself. do you think it's likely that vitamin d triggered this ?

: Your suspicion could be true because the GI symptoms occur at the same time of taking a new medication. You need vitamin D supplement but you can use a different formula or brand. You did not tell us what formula you are taking. By my experience, the high dose 25,000 or 50,000 IU, once weekly, has more adverse effects than the lower, daily dose.

what can i take or do if i have taken too much vitamin d suppl? i'm having stomach pains bloating etc.  my dr had me taking 20, 000 iu  a day. help!

Too much: Usually when the dose is that high it's prescribed once a month. Take a look at the directions. Unless you have a significant deficiency i usually recommend about 1000 units of d-3 a day.  Remember you will be taking this the rest of your life so think low dose long term :).

Bloating: I understand that your stomach is bloating due to the listed supplements, isn't it? If so, you need to discontinue them all and reintroduce one at a time or stop them one at a time to see which one is responsible for your symptoms. If you meant something else by your question, please rephrase it more specifically.

Yes: And also skin cancer. Avoid tanning booths. There are better ways to get adequate vit d in food or with supplemental oral vit d.

Yes but NO: This will increase your active d levels but do so with a significant risk of skin cancer well out of proportion to any potential benefit.  If you want a safe tan get a spray tan and if you want vitamin d go for the pill supplements.

Start with your gut: You have enough going on that you would benefit from finding a doctor you trust to work with you. In the meantime start with treating your gut well. Stop eating all processed food, and make sure you eat a variety of vegetables and some fresh fruit. If you aren't fond of veggies try using a powdered greens product. Also don't drink and sweet drinks -especially artificial sweeteners

Likely basis either: things you are eating or malabsorption with bile in stool &amp; rapid transit. If you are not digesting fats well; fats in the colon feed colonic bacteria resulting in gas &amp; floating fecal material. Both experiment &amp; find someone worthy of you trust to help sort out issues

: Vitamin D is a good supplement for Gout patients to use. It helps with reducing inflammation, preventing gout flareups and improving  your immune system. You should also consider daily Vitamin C use which decreases uric acid levels.
