I don't know the optimal diet to institute to effect weight loss, but you might want to minimize sugars, complex carbohydrates, and saturated fats. The mainstay of pharmacologic therapy is oral contraceptives. Pregnancy should be excluded before starting this therapy.

PCOs: Polycystic ovarian disease is a hormonal imbalance disorder that has to have 2 of the 3 of the following: 1. not ovulating causing absent or irregular periods 2. evidence of elevated androgens leading to hirsutism 3.  polycystic ovaries (12 or more immature eggs cysts on each ovary).  It is a diagnosis of exclusive because many other things act like it and many patient are obese &amp; have prediabetes

Treatment: By far and away the most effective treatment is low carb high fat diet.  Read, "why we get fat and what to do about it" gary taubes.  This approach completely unwinds pcos.  That combined with hormonal treatments and metformin can reverse the syndrome.  You will feel better with energy, lose weight and your skin will completely clear up.  Amazing results.  Takes time though to completely change.
