Not sure it helps...: The medical literature is quite mixed as to the potential value of milk thistle in treating the liver. Lots of things of course cause elevated liver enzymes, &amp; milk thistle certainly may be of little use for many liver diseases.Talk to your liver specialist if herbal products may benefit your particular liver issue. No need to question side effects &amp; take something that has no real proven benefit.

Milk thistle: "Milk thistle may cause allergic skin reactions, bloating, blood clots, collapse, constipation, decreased platelets, diarrhea, eczema, elevated liver enzymes, fever, gas, giddiness, headache, heart attack, heartburn, high bilirubin (a toxic substance) in the blood, hives, impotence, increased creatinine, increased lactate dehydrogenase level, infection, insomnia, irritability, itching, joint pain"

Weight loss...: Fatty liver disease is most often a consequence of the foods we eat and being overweight.  There is no specific treatment (drug or supplement) effective for reversing fatty liver.  If your bmi is > 24, losing weight will result in improvement in ast/alt and reduction of fat in the liver.  Certainly elimination of alcohol (if you drink) is recommended.  Stop the milk thistle. Fluoxetine: I am not aware of any particular interaction between the two. Milk thistle is a liver protectant and doesn't seem to interfere with serotonin or other bioactive substances in the brain or other tissues that fluoxetine does.

Probably not: Milk thistle (silybum) is an herbal supplement that contains silymarin, a flavenoid compound that is said to reduce liver inflammation - but this effect is not well defined. Side effects include occasional stomach upset and diarrhea. Allergic reactions can occur. Neither silybum nor castor oil should cause abdominal pain for a month. You may want to get this pain checked out by your doctor.
