: Metamucil  is a product that binds tightly  with water making it hard for the colon to extract it from the poop. When used in high enough quantities it will produce  poop with the consistency of applesauce. If you decrease the dose, stools will be firmer.

: The Issue is whether a person produces excess gas or whether it's a problem of passing normal amounts of gas through the intestinal tract. If a colon cancer obstructs the descending colon, gas can't be passed out through the rectum. Metamucil,a fiber supplement, can produce excessive gas. Taking simethicone 1/2 hour after a meal can prevent gas buildup from meals.

It's really variable: The anatomy is totally different after the surgery and will work differently. 
Metamucil is a very good first step. Frankly, physical ttherapy for anal/rectal tone 
If there is a gap in the perineum, SOLESTA can act like bondo and fill in missing areas a bit.

: Yes you can take it long term without getting all that. yes you can take it with metamucil but good to take it with some interval. the symptoms mentioned are not those of cancer. It is best to get your diet regulated by avoiding foods which give you gas so you can eventually get rid of all medicines, Good luck.

The colon, thank you, is fully capable of taking care of itself and needs no cleansing.  You can pay a great deal of money to alternate practitioners for colon cleansing but this is money badly spent.  If you think you have medical problems, see your family doctor.
