Stops inflammation: Steroids (different than the steroids that athletes use) are medicines that have many effects, but one is to turn off inflammatory reactions, especially allergic inflammation. Because they have so many effects, they are problem taken by mouth over time, where they are absorbed and can cause side effects. In the nose they are not absorbed, so there are few side effects.

Nose symptoms relief: Allergic inflammation in the nasal mucosa produces swelling, congestion and increased secretions. Nasal topical steroids help with reducing the inflammatory process and therefore reducing these symptoms. Nasal steroids would not directly affect the allergy, that is the hypersensitivity to react when exposed to a particular allergen, such as pollen.

Nasal Steroids: If you suffer from hay fever or allergic rhinits, nasal steroids are very helpful to control your symptoms. But sorry, this kind of steroids are not the anabolic type and will not help you grow muscles. Even if it did, i surely will not recommend it for that purpose.

Throat swelling?: I don't know if you are referring to the throat swelling or not . If so, you need to consult an ENT to find out.  In the absence of nasal congestion, one would not expect steroid sprays , allergy med , or rinses to work.

nasal steroid spray and cetirizen is not helping my 11 year old son with his nasal congestion due to allergies. still congested and loud snoring at night. what to recommend? he is skinny not obese.

Adenoids/allergies: Avoid allergic triggers and repeat allergy testing. Wash sheets in hot water, avoid carpeting in the bedroom and keep surfaces dust and mold free. No: you may need more , you may be having chronic sinusitis, nasal steroids alone won't help, ENT referral may be needed, best wishes

Usually there is: fever, however, as we see more patients with Covid-19, we are seeing a wide range of symptoms, as well as those who seem to have no symptoms, who may be contagious.If one generally takes a nasal steroid spray for allergies or sinus issues, one should be fine taking it to see if it helps. If you are short of breath, you should call your doctor or go to the ER.
