Gall bladder : It is unusual to take out a normal gall bladder, without stones and normal function. It would be more justifiable to look for other causes of symptoms if they recur. Low fat diet, eating slowly and avoiding large meals are always advisable.

got to have a hida scan. i know the 1st part is 1hr. but my letter states needs to eat/drink after 1st scan & then another scan for gallbladder. i dont have a gallbladder(removed) so will i need the 2nd part of the test or is this still done anyway?

: It depends on why HIDA scan needs to be done in your case because you already had cholecystectomy. You should discuss with the technologist. If the nuclear tracer has been detected in the biliary tract and intestine in the first part of the test then you likely do not need the second part which is done for checking the gallbladder especially. Yes: The alcohol should be out of your system in 2 days.  Make sure you follow the directions give to your from your doctor or the imaging facility.

my hida scan done came back functioning at 22%.  i am miserable with acid reflux.  i am taking zantac (ranitidine) with no relief.  what can i eat or drink to help?

Gastric acid reflux: I will recommend being evaluated by a gastroentrologist who may do an upper endoscopy.

Yes: There is national shortage of Kinevec ( a cholecystokinin analogue) which is given IV as part of the provocative HIDA study. An oral fatty meal like Ensure (or a milkshake) will work just as well but might take 20 or 30 minutes longer.  In fact, if it is normal it would also demonstrate normal gastric emptying and absorption of the fatty meal.  More physiologic than IV to reproduce symptoms too.

distended gallbladder after a night of drinking. should i worry? spot on liver 0.3cm all other tests normal. ultrasounds, eus, endonoscopy, colonoscopy and a hida scan which showed 81% rate. what next ? still upper right quadrant pain?

: If you are drinking alcohol at 9 years of age, a dilated gallbladder is the least of your problems. Alcohol is a poison that never did anybody any good, ever, so stay away from it. It will destroy your brain cells, facilitate development of cancer in many organs, including breast, cause hepatitis, cirrhosis and pancreatitis etc. There is no safe level of alcohol intake. Quit while you are ahead.

Hida: HIDA scan will tell you if you have cystic duct or common bile duct obstruction.  Many people who have HIDA scan have a history of abdominal pain and abnormal ultrasound or CT showing gallstones.  Vomiting is a nonspecific symptom.  Do you have pain after eating?  Do you have nausea, bloating?  A gastric emptying study could tell if you are having gastric emptying problems.

is hida scan accurate if you don't have symptoms/pain at the time of test?

Possibly: Hida scan with Kinevac injection is usually done to see if the pain that you're initially complaining about is due to abnormally painful contraction of the gallbladder referred to as gallbladder dyskinesis. This provacative test is usually done if your ultrasound did not reveal stones in the gallbladder. The hida  scan is a functional test to see if your gallbladder is functioning properly.
