if having difficulty gaining weight have you checked your thyroid? make sure not DM (type 1 usually lose weight till diagnosed) medications,especially amines? Get a full check up f/u with doc/ urgent care

See endocrinologist: I'm assuming he already sees an endocrinologist and is on medications for the hypothyroid. He should be able to address all these issues. They are the experts in this field. Typically treating the hypothyroid coupled with a health diet and exercise promotes the weight loss. Height is a different issue. Really depends on genetics, but studies can be done to evaluate if it is a problem a well.

Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex, if you have sex.

Multiple product: Boost and ensure are both nutritional drinks. Both have multiple products in the same brand name with adding prefix or suffix, with differences in various products. .  There are minor differences in potassium and protein content. If you have no medical problem this minor differences would not matter, otherwise consult dietitian if on special food requirement..

A matter of balance.: To gain a single pound, you must eat 3500 calories more than you use. This would translate to an increase in calories of 500/day to gain one pound in a week! continue to be sure that your extra calories are nutritious, not junk. Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, almond butter on whole grain toast, smoothies are other good examples. You probably don't get much sympathy, but it can be hard to gain!

Possibly: If you have no appetite at all, this is not normal and needs evaluation.  Finding and treating the cause of the problem is the best way to go.  See your physician to get started.  There are many possible causes, including depression.  If appropriate to your situation, some antidepressants such as Remeron (mirtazapine) will directly boost appetite.

in addition to your regular 1600 calories a day food intake to maintain 116 pounds at normal daily activities. This will add 500 extra calories per day.

There are 3500 calories in 1 pound of weight.  If you add 500 calories a day in a week you will gain 1 pound of weight. 500 x 7=3500 calories
