Anorexia: Appetite is a complex process mediated by the brain, emotions, metabolic needs, health of the gut &amp; surrounding organs. Lack of weight loss would be good news here. I recommend a visit to your doctor to discuss the circumstances that preceded your anorexia &amp; that may contribute to its persistence. Simple testing is appropriate. Of note, your B12 level is normal.

Recovery varies: If you had experienced solely, loss of myelin coverings from outside of nerve, once the b-12 was replenished, healing should have occurred within 4-5 wks total, but a focal foot drop may be secondary to mechanical problems over lateral knee and perhaps a secondary complication, in which case, needs an updated emg, and if the axon, grows back at 0.1 mm daily.

Those things can,,,: All the things you mentioned can give you many of those symptoms. Vit B12 deficiency especially can do it. The high PTH is a concern also as it can mean a possible adenoma, so it would be smart to see your doctor for therapy to correct your deficiencies and find out why the ca/pth is high. Best of luck.

You may: You B12 is borderline low and you may take oral B12 or injections. However, it is not likely to resolve your symptoms. It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without taking additional history, physical examination and may be some tests. It would be prudent to see your doctor and discuss if you may be depressed. Counter-intuitive as it may seem, exercise may help. Start with low intensity exercise such as walking and gradually increase the intensity as tolerated.

Q: starting in august: lower abdominal pain and loss of appetite. i have lost 13 lbs. i had a normal cbc and abdominal ultrasound. i had a normal ct scan. b12 plasma test was 1700. should i be worried. still have abdominal pain?

Further evaluation: Yes, this needs further evaluation, weight loss , abdominal pain and loss of appetite are significant symptoms. Not sure if you have seen a gastroenterologist and had an endoscopy and colonoscopy done. Without this the work up will be incomplete. Also any family history of colon cancer, any change in bowel movements. If yes then all the more reason to get the above tests done.

Only psychologically: It has a very powerful placebo effect. It is often STILL used for that in people who don't have any reason to take it. They report increased well being.. and that would include increased appetite
