See your doc SOON: Find out why you have such a profound iron deficiency anemia- causes generally due to menstrual loss, gut loss, poor absorption of iron due to bowel diseases like celiac sprue, and/or poor intake. Underlying diseases can cause loss of appetite, or rsult of iron def. Low iron can cause fatigue, bruising, irritability, poor concentration (even w/o anemia). Low HGB can cause w/stroke, heart problems.

Not from the: Anemia per se.  One thing that could be associated with all of these findings would be leukemia, but this is exceedingly unlikely if the rest of your CBC was unremarkable.

Not necessarily: Anemia does not but the same cause which caused you to have anemia can make your hair thinner also! What is the cause of your Anemia? in case you know?

for iron related anemia in a male, if theres no visible sign of bleeding outside of the body, is the cause always bleeding somewhere inside? i was diagnosed with iron-deficiency anemia due to chronic blood loss. how can i find out where the loss is?

: "Iron related anemia" in a male may not be related to iron stores or ferritin levels, but inadequate production of red cells by bone marrow or organ failure.  Attrition of red cell life occurs constantly, and cell production as well as loss of blood via hemorrhage may be responsible for the anemia.

in theory, could blood loss, such as that which occurs during childbirth, be a cause for b12 deficiency? i.e., if a person developed iron anemia due to blood loss, could that eventually lead to chronic low b12 levels? any connection here?

: No connection.
A variety of causes of Vitamin B12 deficiency : Loss of part of stomach, e.g., weight loss surgery; atrophic gastritis, pernicious anemia; use of proton pump inhibitors such as Nexium and Prilosec; heavy consumption of alcohol; Crohn's disease, Celiac disease.

i have anemia and gastritis. my b12 level is normal. could the gastritis alone cause anemia related to blood loss? thank you.

Need more eval: Gastritis means inflammation on the stomach lining. It does not cause anemia- unless if it is not just gastritis but also you have bleeding on the stomach lining or if the gastritis is affecting absorption of certain nutrient like iron for instance. There are many things that can cause anemia besides iron, vit B12 def or bleeding. You definitely should have further evaluation to find the cause.

how does rods placed into the bone effect bone marrow?  if bone marrow loss is a result of this condition, would that also cause anemia?

Probably not: Much.  In the common situation where a rod is placed in the femur to stabilize a serious fracture there would be effacement of some bone marrow, but not enough in of itself to cause a deficit in rbc production leading to anemia.  

The fracture itself and the surgery could result in low HGB shortly after the injury.

does aplastic anemia cause loss of sex drive?

Yes, and depends: Aplastic anemia is a bone marrow failure disorder. Severe aplastic anemia presents significant emotional amd medical strssors that impact sexual function. Due to the failure of bone marrow blood producing function, patients with aplastic anemia usually have profound anemia, chronic fatigue, shortness of breath, easy infecton, bleeding etc, all of which would also affact sexuality.

for 57+ female what are typical causes of mild anemia (hb 10.6, rbc 3.6) & thrombocytopenia (pt 1.2 l) along with ~5% weight loss over 6-months ?

Most common: is IRON DEFICIENCY but a complete work-up is ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY!.... This should include a GI evaluation and COMPLETE BLOOD analysis. (Iron , B-12-folic acid)....This should be done as soon as practicable!
