Anti-hypertensive: trial a dihydropyridine of the than amlodipine, or a calcium channel blocker from a different family such as diltiazem or verapamil, or beta blocker with ISA, a potassium sparing diuretics, centrally acting antihypertensives etc  etc..  Work  with your prescribing physician to achieve a tolerable and sustainable therapeutic solution

i'm 18, heart rate used to be good in the 60-80 range at rest. now that i'm on norvasc (amlodipine) 5 mg, it's 90-120 range at rest. is it even safe to exercise?!

Heart rate: Norvasc (amlodipine) doesn't tend to elevated heart rate. I wonder if there is something else going on. 90-100 would still be considered normal. 100-120 doesn't need to be treated if it is normal sinus rhythm and well tolerated. You will need to have an ECG done at least to make sure there's no abnormal rhythm. After investigation, you may be cleared to exercise.

There are many : Good drug lowering BP medication. Sometimes is a trial and error. Also there are ethnic factors. For example beta blocker sometimes don't work in african american. Please, trust your doctors and do not treat yourself. Personal research is good. Bring that research findings and and have a smart discussion with your physician. Vasodilattachycardia: Norvasc (amlodipine) is a vasodilator and hence incresed vascular space the heart compensates by increasing heart rate you are young to have this degree of hypertension make sure you donot have increased catecholamines as a cause of tachycardia you may need beta blockers to supplement if the other possibilities are excluded.

: No, that blood pressure is optimal for your age. However, most people have reflex tachycardia (high heart rate) with amlodipine but rarely it may cause  bradycardia (low heart rate). If your heart rate is below 50 quite often or you have lightheadedness with changing position, I suggest to have Amlodipine changed to a different dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker such as Felodipine as a trial.

Agree with what?: Are you having drug interactions? What other side effects?

Many people who can find no class of medication to treat their problem, often are not experiencing side effects of the medication, but anticipation of trouble as result of anxiety.  Ace inhibitors (lisinopril) are very well tolerated, but if side effect, arb is good option.  Norvasc (amlodipine) (dhp-ccb) is also well tolerated, with few side effects.

Usually nothing: A heart rate of 57 is usually normal especially if you are active and exercise frequently.  However, if your hr has suddenly dropped to the 50's it could mean something.  Certain rhythm issues or medications can cause slow heart rates.  Often these people will have dizziness, fatigue, or near fainting associated with this.  If you are concerned your doctor should be able to help you figure it out.
