Ambien (zolpidem): Ambien (zolpidem) does affect sleep stages (i.e. Patterns) and dreaming.  It is less so than some other medications prescribed for sleep but it does cause changes to sleep structure.

See your Neurologist: It sounds like you may need a sleep study & further evaluation.  For instance if you have sleep apnea, you may be at risk for further cerebral vascular problems. Ambien (zolpidem) is probably safe but may be masking some other problem.

He should see doctor: How old is your son ?   Ambien (zolpidem) is not  recommended for children.  It is critical   that he be seen by his own doctor to determine cause of sleep problems and determine best treatment . U also want to identify what he dislikes about taking it;  Once understood, the doctor can work with you and your son to treat sleep issues in a way that is comfortable for him

The : The recent study you are most likely alluding to does not establish an actual cause and effect relationship.  It is not known if the sleep medications cause increased risk or if people who are at increased risk  are just the people who tend to use these medications.  However, Ambien (zolpidem) increases interluken 8, which stimulates cancer growth. Regardless, congratulations for successfully coming off a sleep medication after being on it for so long. Belsomra: This is a new medication that shows some promising results. It works directly in the "sleep center" and makes falling asleep easier.  It is available by prescription only and you should talk to your doctor about it.

Using Ambien (zolpidem) with Lexapro may increase dizziness and difficulty concentrating. You may also experience some impairment in thinking and judgment.
Gain of 30 pounds is likely a symptom of Depression due to stress..

2 things: First let your doc know about your findings. It might have also been a technical issue with your watch that misreported your heart rate and having your heart rate rechecked without taking your ambien may give you the answer, specifically if you check manually also if possible and compare the values.

No. It is also a BRA: Ambien (zolpidem) is a  Benzodiazepine Receptor Agonist .Acts at the SAME receptor,  GABA, that Ativan &amp; Klonopin (benzodiazepines ) do.
ALL are addictive,with physiological dependence ,  rebound insomnia upon abrupt discontinuation as also serious " withdrawal symptoms" including but not limited to Seizures , insomnia and delirium .
 Let your doc taper you off Ambien (zolpidem) &amp; use TRAZODONE for insomnia .

i have always had problems sleeping. it has gotten a lot worse with the tamoxifen.i think it's anxiety about no sleep.with ambien (zolpidem) i  lay there for 4 hrs. no tv in room, don't smoke or drink.suggestions?

Other options: Tamoxifen can cause insomnia in about 9% of patients.  It sounds like you know about sleep hygiene -- here is a reference for reminders:  http://tinyurl.Com/lpcwhxt  you might discuss low dose Elavil or sinequan with your physician, especially if Ambien (zolpidem) does not seem to help.  By low dose, i mean 10mg  - 25mg at bedtime.  It may help without causing side effects at that dose.
