No: No and if 4mm or less then the scar will probably become invisible.

Did it work?: If the ointment cleared up the area without there being infection it should not be a problem.  It is highly unlikely to be toxic in any way.  Your doctor simply had samples and forgot to check the expiration date, or the drug rep gave them outdated samples.

what is the difference between a punch biopsy and shave biopsy for mole removal?

Depth: The main difference is depth. In punch biopsy you try to get as much depth as possible while in a shave you try to scrape the lesion without going too deep.

No: Forget the do it yourself. Can you take out your own appendix? See a dermatologist for diagnosis and possible therapy. "Moles" is not a medical diagnosis. Any treatment depends on exactly what is there.

PCP: Go to your pcp and have him or her take it out.  It is hard to advice because I do not know how long the suture has been there and how the wound looks like.

: If the biopsy showed heavy lymphoid infiltration I recommend obtaining an opinion from a second pathologist with expertise in skin microscopy to rule out skin lymphoma. You could discuss this with the first pathologist first.

Splinter hemorrhage?: A splinter hemorrhage is an area of old blood under the nail from an injury to the nail or from an infection of the heart called endocarditis.  You mention having had a punch biopsy previously, so it may have been related to that, but it would be wise to review this with your doctor so a possible infection is not missed.

Depends: On some individuals there is no scar. On others a thick scar (keloid) may develop. On some patients there is a flat area of decreased pigmented skin. The size of the scar will depend upon the size of the punch biopsy. It has been my experience that how one scars in the past is representative of how you may scar in the future.
