Likely to see cyst: We can see pelvic pathology fairly well on ct scans, including cysts, but as cysts are usually fluid filled, ultrasounds are better at visualizing those types of structures so that might be  better test for you.

No: One CT scan (CAT scan) does not turn a cyst into a cancerous cyst. If a cyst were to be found cancerous, it would be cancerous by its own destiny and not by a CT scan.

ive had pain in my pelvic area on the left side for two weeks. its getting more severe.  i had a ct scan last month for another reason and  i have an ovarian cyst but its on my right side and free fluid in pelvic region. what is this?

Pelvic pain: What other symptoms prompted the CT scan? Bowel symptoms? Has your gynecologist performed a careful rectopelvic examination?  Left sided ruptured ovarian cyst or pelvic inflammatory disorder.are possibilities. Diverticulitis or inflammatory bowel disease of the descending colon are less.likely if you had no bowel symptoms.

Cyst rupture or not?: The free fluid could be from a ruptured ovarian cyst, or it could just be physiological free fluid.  Did you have severe pelvic pain that seemed to get better with time?  If so, a ruptured cyst is more likely.

See Answer: The ovaries are dynamic organs, with developing follicles that mature,  “rupture” – and  release the egg at about 22-25mm, and regress. This physiology may cause “mittelschmerz” or ovulation pain that could last for a few days. This is not uncommonly accompanied by some slight fluid in the cul –de  - sac or adnexal areas of the pelvis.  If symptoms or concern persist please see your dr. To insure.

: All imaging results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, nothing you reported is a cause for concern.    Wish you good health!

CT show more.: An ultrasound study is heavily dependent on the skills of the technologist. The us also does not typically see everything in the pelvis, particularly with regard to the bowels (colon, rectum, appendix) and does not see structures outside of the uterus or ovaries well such as lymph nodes. A ct study also can show the bones whereas this is typically not possible with us.

Not usually.: The kidneys are normally seen in the abdomen. However, they can be located in the pelvis. Occaisionally we'll see a part of the kidneys depending on where they're located on a pelvic ct scan.

Large prostate: Yes, the ct of the pelvis would typically include the prostate to assess enlargement.  Large prostates are fairly common and may or may not have any negative impact on patients.  If you have urinary issues, bleeding, or persistant bowel problems, you should see your doctor.

: Ultrasound will diagnose accurately an ovarian cyst .  A "CT" is generally not required for this. Ask your GYN physician about low dose oral bcp's, not simply for contraception, but also to reduce symptoms of pre-menopause and reduce spontaneous cyst formation.
